Let’s all agree to this simple fact – after COVID-19, our commutes won't be the same anymore. The health scare caused by the pandemic has forced us all to take a deep look at our lifestyles and revisit everything that we did before it started. One of the many changes that the pandemic has brought about is the concern of travelling in crowded mass transit systems such as buses and metro trains. The risk of contamination increases significantly when you are in contact with people who may have the infection but are asymptomatic in nature.

The best way to avoid that is by taking your own personal means of communication such as a two-wheeler or your own car. And when it comes to choosing the most economical option, nothing beats two wheelers. So, if you are thinking of making the transition from mass commutes to a two-wheeler commute, here are a few things that you must know first.

Do not cut corners on riding safety gears

Being safe on two wheelers has more to do with getting the right riding safety gears and following all the local laws and regulations on the road. When it comes to safety gears for motorcycle riding, you will need a good quality helmet, a pair of motorcycle riding gloves and a rain suit at the very minimum especially if you are going to travel in rainy conditions. In addition to that, you can also invest in a pair of luggage bags for motorcycles if you need to carry additional things with you on your commutes. Investing in high quality riding safety gears will give you the best value for money and return on investment for a very long period of time. Conversely, if you cut corners on the quality of your riding gear, you may get a compromised product which will not be very effective in protecting you in the unfortunate event of an accident.

Choosing the right two-wheeler

Once you have decided to skip mass-transit in favour of a two-wheeler ride, the first step is to decide upon the type of two-wheeler that best suits your lifestyle and transit requirement. Motorcycles are an obvious choice for most people because of the high mileage it provides, but when it comes to value for money and extra features, a scooter will be your best option. Scooters have extra luggage carrying capacity under the seat as well as on the floor board and they are comparatively easy to ride in stop and go traffic conditions within the city. The absence of clutch and gear mechanism makes riding scooters so much more pleasant compared to frequently changing gears on a motorcycle. But motorcycles do have their own charm and are great for long distance rides. At the end of the day it all boils down to your personal preference. Whichever option you pick, make sure to invest in good quality riding safety gears.

Sanitize after every ride

When you are on the road, the risk of contamination does not entirely cease to exist. You are still exposed to pathogens and viruses floating in the air and so you might have to continue sanitizing like before. A good rule of thumb is to sanitize after completing every ride. As an added protection, wearing a pair of motorcycle riding gloves will prevent your hands from coming in contact with contaminated surfaces. Having said that, always make sure to carry hand sanitizers in your backpack or in the motorcycle luggage bag so that you always have sanitizers with you. Another important riding safety gear is a helmet that will cover your mouth, eyes and nose to protect you against pathogens floating in the air.
