Habits, both good or bad, form when they are started early in life. If you child has gotten into the habit of not wearing a helmet yet, chances are high that your child will think helmets to be optional even when they grow up.  Here is how you can encourage your child to wear a helmet and stay safe.

Actions speak louder than words

The simplest and most powerful way to influence your child into wearing a helmet every day is by wearing a helmet yourself. When you start wearing a helmet yourself, your child will try to copy it and you will find it easier to get your child to wear a helmet. on the other hand, if you force your kid to do that it will become a challenge that your child will resist. make it look cool for your child to wear a helmet.

Gamify the habit

Children respond really well to games and therefore a good way to teach them new skills is to gamify the whole experience. You can do that by thinking of some innovative idea that will make it a fun process for your child to seek out the process of wearing a helmet instead of avoiding it.

Make it a rewarding experience

Another thing that you can do to help your child be more enthusiastic about using a helmet is to attach a reward to the process. make a deal with your child that you will give him or her a special hug at the end of the commute if he or she voluntarily was the helmet without you having to ask for it. you can also find out other ways to reward the experience but keep in mind not to attach any material expectation to the process because that will only add up to your expenses!

An attractive design always makes things easy!

One very important thing that will help your child make it a habit of wearing a helmet every day is to purchase a very attractively designed helmet. Helmets for kids are designed in very attractive motifs and decal options that are preferred by the age group. If that is not available in your locality, you can purchase any helmet for kids and renovate it yourself with some stickers of your child's favorite action hero. If you are willing to spend some time on making the helmet wearing experience really special, you can also sand the top paint layer down and paint it yourself!

Ensure that the helmet is comfortable

No matter what you do if the helmet is not comfortable chances are that your child will not have a good experience with wearing the helmet. Therefore, it is very important that you check for the helmet’s comfort before purchasing it. Ensuring this is very simple. All you need to do is use your fingers to press inside the inner lining and padding to check whether it is soft and comfortable. While you're at it also check whether the helmet has all the necessary safety features to keep your child protected.
